The Big NouBowski

For my Design History mid-term we are making Art Nouveau movie posters, and as you may have guessed from the title I'm choosing The Big Lebowski. It was either Lebowski or Jurassic Park, and seeing as I did dinosaurs for the storybook (which I'm still working on) I decided to abide by the Dude.

I'm very excited about this project because I've always wanted to do an Art Nouveau style piece. I've always loved Alphonse Mucha's work even when I wasn't privy to the history of art.

I'm thinking I'm going to have to roll with Illustrator on this one because of all the fine line work. Yet I think I'm going to dip into Photoshop for some coloring. Again, I'm very excited.

Here's a rough sketch I did tonight at Brewhaus over a beer after I got out of class.

More Bears And Donuts

Here's the progress I've made tonight.

I'm slowly getting a firmer grasp on Illustrator, but I can't keep my eyes open anymore.

I just hope I can make it into school to get this printed, photographed, and photoshop'd before class.

Bears In Progress

As I've mentioned in past posts I've been swamped with homework and projects which is why I've been so lax on posts lately. So, I've just decided to group it all into Work In Progress posts, and then do final project posts once they are finished.

So, these Work In Progress posts won't have much other than a quick blurb and a photo or two of what I'm doing.

Now on with the post!

So, yeah bears. Here's a screen shot of a project I'm working on for my Advanced Theory class. We had to create a fake food company that would utilize a Chinese takeout box creatively.

I originally had three ideas; a to-go tea place called Go-Tea, which would feature different kinds of facial hair on it's loose tea go boxes, a Tapas place called For The Table, and the winner, a donut place called Bearclaws

Then we had to design a logo, and a design for the package. Here's where I'm at right now. I still have to throw down some shapes and color it, then print it out and mock-up three different sized-print ads for it.

In theory, the box will be a bear's head, and one would eat donut holes from it. All I have colored is the logo right now.

Hints, Allegations, and Previews from a Camera Phone

Today, while I was out on a photo hunt in downtown Springfield I figured out what I am going to do for my photo series final, and here is a hint.

(I wish this was better quality. I filled up the card on my camera, and was forced to use my phone. It's okay, but no where nearly as amazing as the camera I've been using. I keep telling myself I need to get another card, and I will before heading to Chicago this weekend.)

I have a load of photos I snapped today, and soon I'll be processing them. I'll be going back to retake this one. However, when I found it, after I filled my card, I just had to capture it. It was perfect. The culmination of all my wanderings that afternoon summed up with what I found squirreled away in an alley that no one would ever walk down.

After that I headed to the park to write an essay for a scholarship, and what turned into five pages or brain droppings about life. I'll no doubt refine them, and turn them into something to be presented soon enough.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, was my office for all that writing.

(Again, apologies for the quality. I was, once again, using my phone)

Because sometimes I need ice cream

Sometimes I sleep. Then sometimes I need ice cream, and sometimes if ice cream isn't available I confess my love to it.

(This idea popped into my head. It's a work in progress, but I'm too tired to keep working, especially on my laptop. There's still more to do with it. I don't know about the font either.)
