Howl At The Moon

It's Monster Monday for Horror Movie October and today's flick is the 1981 case-study by John Landis, An American Werewolf in London.

"An American Werewolf in London"
"From the director of Animal House...
A different kind of animal..."

This is one of the best monster movies I've ever seen, and that's because it doesn't play like a regular movie. Yes, it tells a story, but Landis conquers the topic of lycanthropy as a case study. It isn't interjected with interviews like so much modern-day sitcom though.

We follow the story of two Americans backpacking through England when one is bitten, turned into a werewolf, and kills his friend. His friend is tied to his friend, the werewolf killer, in the ethereal realm, and haunts him as a ghostly guide for his new lifestyle change into lycanthropy. It's a beautiful film, filled with raw emotional response, and driven by animal instincts.

Check the trailer, then hunt down the film.

As always there is more to come...
